Three Promises
Directed by Yousef Srouji
Palestine / US / Lebanon, 2023, 61 min.
Three Promises is the poignant story of a mother and her camera, a son and his suppressed memories, and an entire country. Suha, the mother, documents daily family life during the tumultuous times of the second intifada in the West Bank. As her family frequently seeks refuge underground, Suha makes promises to God in the hopes of their survival. In 2017, her son, the director of this film, uncovers these memories and reconnects with a suppressed past. This film captures the heartrending reality of life in war and reveals the staggering beauty of a mother’s love.

Palestine, 2021, 22 min.
our songs were ready for all wars to come is an experimental film that combines choreographed scenes with documented Palestinian folk tales. With images of women performing and communal rituals associated with mourning and death, the film asks: How can folklore become an emancipatory tool, reclaim history, and rewrite reality? The only narration is a song sung by Palestinian singer Maya Khaldi, whose lyrics are a collage of different folk tales.
